Colombia is probably more well-known for its violence and decades of civil conflict than anything else, but actually, it is now a safe place for travellers to visit and discover what they've been missing. In case you didn't know, Colombia is home to salsa, Shakira, coffee, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, author of Love in the Time of Cholera.
Without the violence, you will find that Colombia is indeed an astonishing place full of diversity, and not just because of its range in cultural influences, from Native American to Spanish, to European, to African, to American, to Carribean, to Middle Eastern to Latin American. Its landscapes are diverse too. Colombia boasts of gorgeous Carribean beaches, jungle walks and Amazon safaris, modern cities with skyscrapers and nightclubs, colonial cities, archaeological ruins, high mountains and coffee plantations.
Whatever scenery you're attracted to, Colombia offers many activities for the adventurous traveller, and the warmth of the locals will surely make your journey even better. It is an easy country to fall in love with that, once you're there, you may find it very difficult to leave.
