A glove is a garment that covers the hand, usually worn for protection. It has separate coverings for the fingers, although some gloves are fingerless and some cover the entire hand (mittens). "Gloves protect and comfort hands against cold or heat, damage by friction, abrasion or chemicals, and disease; or in turn to provide a guard for what a bare hand should not touch." Different types of gloves include:

• Mittens - worn for warmth, usually in the winter and have no separate covering for each finger, increasing skin contact between fingers which increases heat.
• Commercial gloves - used for protection or guard for the hands, often made of latex or rubber. Some commercial gloves, like the ones used by health care professionals, are disposable. Examples of commercial gloves also include gardening gloves, or gloves used by fire fighters and police officers when examining a crime scene.
• Fingerless gloves - also known as "bum-gloves" or "hobo gloves". Its name is self-explanatory, and this type of glove are usually worn by bikers, rollerbladers, skateboarders, weightlifters, etc. Some fingerless gloves, typically leather, were also used by rockers like Michael Jackson and Billy Idol as a way to display certain images of "recklessness" and "rebellion".
• Fashion gloves - for women, they come in three lengths: "wrist ("matinee"), elbow, and opera or full-length (over the elbow, reaching to the biceps)". They are often made of satin or silk and worn as a part of "dressy outfits". Long white gloves worn by young women are prevalent in events like prom, cotillion, and even wedding.
• Other types of gloves include: oven gloves boxing gloves, baseball gloves, motorcycling gloves, etc.

No matter what your glove preference may be, the best way to find the right pair of gloves is to go to your local shopping mall and browse around, or shop online. You don't have to wait until winter to purchase a pair of great mittens or buy the new leather gloves you saw at the mall. When you find the perfect pair, it really will fit like a glove.
