Origami (from ori meaning "folding", and kami meaning "paper") is the traditional Japanese folk art of paper folding, which started in the 17th century AD and was popularized in the mid-1900s. It has since then evolved into a modern art form. The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of material into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques, and as such the use of cuts or glue are not considered to be origami.
If you're interested in the art of origami, there are many origami books available for purchasing, both at your local craft or book store and, or online. Some craft stores or book shops also carry origami paper. You can also browse online websites that have techniques on how to make origami, whether you're a beginner who's looking for fun and easy origami or an expert who needs some tips, extra techniques in folding or inspiration, like the origami dragon on the right, done by origami veteran Dr. Robert J. Lang.
